Sustainability inititatives

Our journey to net-zero

Becoming carbon neutral is our long-term goal. In working towards this objective, we have reduced our carbon emissions by 55% as a percentage of revenue.

Tree-planting

We have committed to planting two trees for every account we open across the Isle of Man and Africa.

Reduced Carbon Commuting

We offer free bus travel to Isle of Man employees and an electric vehicle scheme with charging points at our offices.

Office improvements

We have improved the efficiency of our offices by installing LED lights and centrally controlled heating and air conditioning.

Green Tariff

We have joined a Green Tariff scheme to provide electricity from local renewable sources and the UK interconnector.

Active travel

We encourage our employees to change the way they travel to work by offering a cycle-to-work scheme.

Offsetting projects

The Group purchased carbon offsets as part of a low-carbon housing development and waste management project in South Africa

Charity initiatives

Capital in the community

It’s important that we play our part in building a better world for current and future generations. We partner with several charities, support individual sponsorships, and encourage our people to give back through our employee volunteering scheme.

Souper Troopers

In South Africa, we have supported Souper Troopers over a number of years, with regular financial contributions and engagement from our employees. Members of our senior leadership team also give their time to assist Souper Troupers to review their strategic objectives. Collectively this work has helped Souper Troopers to support homeless people to get off the streets and back into society and employment.

Isle of Man Woodland Trust

Our commitment to planting 25,000 trees by the end of 2025 is in part made possible through our close collaboration with the Isle of Man Woodland Trust. Through this partnership, we have planted over 10,000 trees consisting of more than 15 predominantly Manx native species. The Woodland Trust share our vision of a greener, more sustainable future and bring invaluable expertise and resources to our tree planting initiative.

Isle Listen

We have provided financial support to the mental health charity IsleListen in order that they could relocate to new premises in Castletown, which is owned by the Group. Isle Listen have taken a five-year lease at the property at below market related rates and initial lease concessions were provided. In addition, we continue to use Isle Listen services in support of all our employees.

Resthaven

Resthaven is a South African NPO, who serve those placed in their care and the community at large, including children, adults or the aged.Operating since 1979 and from several locations in the southern suburbs of Johannesburg, they provide various facilities, safe houses, and clinics as well as food, clothing, shelter, and care to those in need.

Hospice Isle of Man

In 2022, we partnered with Hospice Isle of Man as part of the 'Big Splash', a trail of dolphin sculptures placed across the Island. Each dolphin was uniquely decorated by an artist and families could visit each sculpture and track their visits using an app dedicated to the trail. After a summer on display, the dolphin sculptures were then auctioned off to raise funds for Hospice Isle of Man.

Victim Support

Victim Support Isle of Man helps people who have been affected by crime. The Group has raised funds for the charity through a number of initiatives including supporting their 'Dress in Yellow Day', competing in golf competitions and running a quiz night open for all employees to attend.

The Huruma Project

Supporting an orphanage in Tanzania

Our team have raised over £42,000 to donate to the Huruma Orphanage in Arusha, Tanzania, which supports and schools children between the ages of 3 and 17. Our goal is to help the orphanage to become self sustainable for generations to come.

Business ethics and corporate governance

We operate a robust risk and compliance framework that is underpinned by strong governance and is supported by policies, procedures and systems to ensure that at all times we apply personal and professional integrity in our work. We measure the effectiveness of our sustainability initiatives against the World Economic Forum's (WEF) 55 metrics. This helps us to understand our position and to ensure that the Group’s sustainability purpose is fully embedded into our strategic initiatives, policies and goals.
